Susanne Singer elected Chair-Elect of the EORTC Quality of Life Group

The EORTC Quality of Life Group (QLG) is pleased to announce that Prof. Dr Susanne Singer has been elected as Chair-Elect of the QLG Executive Committee, following a vote of QLG active members.
Susanne will take up her role as Chair-Elect at the QLG autumn 2026 meeting in Zagreb, working together with the current Chair, Dr Jaap Reijneveld, and the Executive Committee to support the Group’s strategic direction and activities.
Reflecting on her election, Prof. Dr Susanne Singer said:
“I am honoured by the confidence placed in me by the members of the Quality of Life Group. I am committed to supporting the continued development of quality of life research and to contributing to the Group’s work within EORTC and beyond in the years ahead.”
The current Chair of the Quality of Life Group, Dr Jaap Reijneveld, welcomed the outcome of the election:
“On behalf of the Executive Committee, I warmly congratulate Susanne on her election as Chair‑Elect. Her experience and perspective will be a valuable asset to the Executive Committee as the Quality of Life Group continues to evolve.”
The Executive Committee would also like to thank both candidates for standing in the election, as well as all QLG members who took part in the voting process. Their engagement reflects the Quality of Life Group’s strong commitment to transparent and inclusive governance.
Prof. Dr Susanne Singer, PhD
Susanne Singer graduated from the School of Psychology of Leipzig University, Germany, and attended the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK, for a Master of Science in Epidemiology. In 2012, she became Full Professor of Epidemiology and chair of the Division of Epidemiology and Health Services Research at the Institute of Medical Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics at University Medical Centre of Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz, Germany. Since 2025, she chairs the Division for Quality of Life in Oncology at the Comprehensive Cancer Center Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Rostock, Germany.

Her main research interests are quality of life, mental health, and quality of care in cancer patients. Between 2008 and 2014, she chaired the German Psycho-Oncology Society. She is an active member of the EORTC Quality of Life and Head and Neck Cancer Groups where she served at the Executive Committees for several years. She was the liaison person between EORTC Quality of Life Group and Head and Neck Cancer Group from 2008 to 2021.
She is also a fully trained and licenced psychotherapist and psychoanalyst.
